What is the "Programa Padrino"?

What is it about?

The Padrino/Mentor programme is an activity developed by the "Oficina del Estudiante Extranjero" (Foreign students' office) with the finalization of helping exchange students to integrate socially and academically in to the University of Leon.

What does it consist of?

The search for volunteers within the university community to act as mentors for foreign students staying in Leon during the current semester. Basically, a Spanish student is allocated to each foreign students who applies so that he/she becomes familiar with the campus and student life in general.

What are the objectives of the programme?

To integrate foreign students into the university.
To help foreign students to adapt to academic and social life in Leon.
To enrich fluency in the foreign language for both students.
To get to know new people from different countries, their language, customs, culture…

What duties does the mentor have to carry out?

Offer help to the foreign student in any way they can.
Welcome their foreign student and show them how to find their way around the campus, Leon…
Advise them with the accommodation, hostels (you can count on our help), shopping…
Help them to integrate into university life in the town.
Develop a friendship with their student. .
Introduce them to the culture and society of Leon so that they become a part of it.
